Did Miley Cyrus Try Out For Broadway’s “Les Miserables”?

Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus

VIDEO

It sounds like Miley Cyrus could have tried out for Broadway’s “Les Miserables” the last time she was in New York City! In the leaked video below you can hear Miley singing the song “On My Own” from “Les Miserables.”

There isn’t any music on the track, and it definitely sounds like the recording could have been taken during an audition. We know that Miley’s dad Billy Ray Cyrus has tried out Broadway, and it wouldn’t surprise us if Miley wanted to perform on stage as well!

Taylor Swift Rules Billboard.com’s 2013 Mid-Year Music Awards

Taylor Swift (Photo: Billboard)

Taylor Swift continued a stellar year by dominating the 2013 edition of Billboard.com’s Mid-Year Music Awards poll, which allowed fans to weigh in on their favorite artists, songs, albums and performance of the first six months of the year. After voting officially concluded when June rolled over into July, hundreds of thousands of entries were tallied and the 23-year-old country superstar came out on top in three key categories, including the coveted First-Half MVP contest.

Swift, whose fourth studio album “Red” scored the biggest debut sales week of 2012 upon its release last October, has spent much of 2013 supporting the full-length on her massive Red world tour, which began in March and will continue through December. The singer has also taken time to perform at ceremonies like the 55th Annual Grammy Awards and the 2013 Billboard Music Awards — the latter at which she also won the Artist of the Year trophy — while also collecting more hits like “I Knew You Were Trouble, “22” and “Everything Has Changed” to follow her first Hot 100 chart-topper, “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together.” Billboard.com fans did their part in recognizing Swift’s many achievements over the past six months: she was named First-Half MVP, topping artists like Justin Timberlake and Beyonce handily; “Red,” which returned to the top of the Billboard 200 albums chart earlier this year, was bestowed with the ‘Favorite Billboard 200 No. 1 Album’ award; and the Red tour trumped Rihanna’s Diamonds tour to earn the title of the voter’s favorite live show on 2013.

Meanwhile, stars like Timberlake, Bruno Mars and Justin Bieber all posted strong showings in multiple categories, but it was the fresh-faced Ariana Grande who most handily defeated her competition. The Nickelodeon star and “The Way” singer was named Best Newcomer by earning a whopping 50 percent of the votes in the category, trouncing closest competitors Icona Pop and being handed the title from last year’s Newcomer winners, One Direction. Another young female pop personality, Miley Cyrus, also found lots of success in this year’s mid-year poll, with wins in the Best Music Video, Best Comeback and Best Style competitions.

Other big winners from the Mid-Year Music Awards poll included P!nk, whose hit single “Just Give Me a Reason” (feat. Nate Ruess) topped a pair of Bruno Mars cuts to earn the Favorite Hot 100 No. 1 Song crown; Beyonce, whose powerhouse performance at the Super Bowl halftime show squeaked by Taylor Swift’s Billboard Music Awards display as fans’ favorite televised performance of the past six months; Swedish House Mafia, who bid farewell at the Ultra Music Festival and won the fan vote for Best Festival Performance; and Britney Spears, whose next musical project is the most anticipated event of 2013, according to fan votes.

Miley Cyrus: Everyone Thinks I’m the ‘White Nicki Minaj’

Mystical ex-mouseketeer Miley Cyrus has shapeshifted her way out of the confines of the Disney Channel into an unstoppable twerking machine the second a beat drops.

Doesn’t matter what it is. It can be the trap track playing on Power 106 this very moment, Miley twerks. You can take a spoon from your kitchen and hit it against a wooden block in rhythmic time, Miley be twerkin’.

Just don’t mistake all that enthusiasm for Nicki Minaj. She may have dressed up as her for Halloween last year, but that was then (when the goal of the holiday is to convincingly blur the lines between you and the identity of your costume) and this is now (not Halloween).

Screen shot 2013-06-14 at 12.28.59 PM

“A lot of people wanted to try to make me the white Nicki Minaj,” Miley said of her new image to Billboard magazine, of which she also covers. “That’s not what I’m trying to do. I love ‘hood’ music, but my talent is as a singer.”

For Miley, it’s not even really about Image (capital “I”) to begin with. All attention should be paid to her sound, which she has been working on all this time with laser focus.

“I’ve always wanted country-rock influences, but now I’m moving over to a more urban side,” she said. “It’s not a hip-hop album, though, it’s a pop album. I’m not coming in trying to rap. It’s more like, ‘I don’t see any girls out there doing what Miguel and Frank Ocean are doing.’”

Take it or leave it, your judgments have minimal affect on Miley. For instance, concerning the drug-infused subject matter of her lead single “We Can’t Stop,” she said, “I didn’t make this song for the critics, but for the people living it.”

Miley Cyrus on Her Music Makeover: ‘I Want to Start as a New Artist’

b17ffdaadd2bdfaa32abeb458e20ba10

Suffice to say Miley Cyrus is going through something of a metamorphosis.

After ditching her saccharine-sweet Disney darling image, Cyrus has emerged with a brand new edge: from her punk pixie cut and her revealing rocker-chic style, to dabbling in drugs and twerking to rap.

But now as she readies to release her first album since 2009’s Can’t Be Tamed, she wishes she could swipe the slate completely clean.

“Right now, when people go to iTunes and listen to my old music, it’s so irritating to me because I can’t just erase that stuff and start over,” Cyrus, 20, says in herBillboard cover story. “My last record, I feel so disconnected from — I was 16 or 17 when I made it. When you’re in your 20s, you just don’t really know that person anymore. I want to start as a new artist. I consider my upcoming album my first, really.”

Though Cyrus concedes her new work is still “a pop album,” she certainly is trying to push new boundaries, teaming up with the likes of Pharrell Williams,Will.i.am and Dr. Luke to add a hint of hip-hop to her country roots

“I’ve always wanted country-rock influences, but now I’m moving over to a more urban side,” she says. “It’s not a hip-hop album…. I’m not coming in trying to rap. It’s more like, ‘I don’t see any girls out there doing what Miguel and Frank Oceanare doing. We’ve been calling it ‘count-step,’ because it’s like country, dubstep and a little trap.”

As she continues to transition from child stardom to adult artist, Cyrus’ new sound has helped her define herself.

“It’s not like I’m losing who I am — I actually found out more about who I am by making this music,” she explains. “I’m going on a journey, and that’s more than a lot of 20-year-olds can say. And I’m still going to change so much. Because I’m not the same person I was six months ago — I’m not even the same person I was two weeks ago.”

But one thing stays true: “I never stop working, ever,” Cyrus insists. “I put my track list together this morning. I want my record to be the biggest record in the world, and I’ve given everything to get here, even down to friends and family and relationships — I’ve just put this music first. That’s been kind of a trip.”

We Can’t Stop – Miley Cyrus (Lyrics)

439588043_640

It’s our party we can do what we want
It’s our party we can say what we want
It’s our party we can love who we want
We can kiss who we want
We can see who we want (2x)

Red cups and sweaty bodies everywhere
Hands in the air like we don’t care
Cause we came to have so much fun now
Got somebody here might get some now

If you’re not ready to go home
Can I get a hell no
Cause we gonna go all night
Till we see the sunlight alright

So la da di da di, we like to party
Dancing with Miley
Doing whatever we want
This is our house
This is our rules
And we can’t stop
And we won’t stop
Can’t you see it’s we who own the night
Can’t you see it we who bout’ that life
And we can’t stop
And we won’t stop
We run things, Things don’t run we
We don’t take nothing from nobody

It’s our party we can do what we want
It’s our party we can say what we want
It’s our party we can love who we want
We can kiss who we want
We can see who we want

To my homegirls here with the big butts
Shaking it like we at a strip club
Remember only God can judge us
Forget the haters cause somebody loves ya
And everyone in line in the bathroom
Trying to get a line in the bathroom
We all so turnt up here
Getting turnt up yea yea

So la da di da di, we like to party
Dancing with Miley
Doing whatever we want
This is our house
This is our rules
And we can’t stop
And we won’t stop
Can’t you see it’s we who own the night
Can’t you see it we who bout’ that life
And we can’t stop
And we won’t stop
We run things
Things don’t run we
We don’t take nothing from nobody

It’s our party we can do what we want
It’s our party we can say what we want
It’s our party we can love who we want
We can kiss who we want
We can see who we want

It’s our party we can do what we want to
It’s our house we can love who we want to
It’s our song we can sing if we want to
It’s my mouth I can say what I want to
Yea, Yea, Yeah

And we can’t stop
And we won’t stop
Can’t you see it’s we who own the night
Can’t you see it we who bout’ that life
And we can’t stop
And we won’t stop
We run things
Things don’t run we
We don’t take nothing from nobody
Yea, Yea, Yea

Party In The USA – Miley Cyrus (Lyrics)

I hopped off the plane at LAX with a dream and my cardigan
Welcome to the land of fame excess, am I gotta fit in?
Jumped in the cab, here I am for the first time
Look to my right, and I see the Hollywood sign

My tummy’s turnin’ and I’m feelin’ kinda homesick
Too much pressure and I’m nervous
That’s when the taxi man turned on the radio

And the Jay-Z song was on
And the Jay-Z song was on
And the Jay-Z song was on

So I put my hands up, they’re playin’ my song
The butterflies fly away
I’m noddin’ my head like “Yeah!”
Movin’ my hips like “Yeah!”

Got my hands up, they’re playin’ my song
And now I’m gonna be okay
Yeah! It’s a party in the USA!
Yeah! It’s a party in the USA!

Get to the club in my taxi cab
Everybody’s lookin’ at me now
Like “Who’s that chick that’s rockin’ kicks
She’s gotta be from out of town”

So hard with my girls not around me
It’s definitely not a Nashville party
‘Cause all I see are stilettos
I guess I never got the memo

My tummy’s turnin’ and I’m feelin’ kinda homesick
Too much pressure and I’m nervous
That’s when the DJ dropped my favorite tune

And the Britney song was on
And the Britney song was on
And the Britney song was on

So I put my hands up, they’re playin’ my song
The butterflies fly away
I’m noddin’ my head like “Yeah!”
Movin’ my hips like “Yeah!”

Got my hands up, they’re playin’ my song
And now I’m gonna be okay
Yeah! It’s a party in the USA!
Yeah! It’s a party in the USA!

Feel like hoppin’ on a flight, on a flight
Back to my hometown tonight, town tonight
Something stops me every time, every time
The DJ plays my song and I feel alright

So I put my hands up, they’re playin’ my song
The butterflies fly away
I’m noddin’ my head like “Yeah!”
Movin’ my hips like “Yeah!”

Got my hands up, they’re playin’ my song
And now I’m gonna be okay
Yeah! It’s a party in the USA!
Yeah! It’s a party in the USA!
